My Values
Collaboration has to be on the menu
I love working in environments where I am not expected to know everything. Part of the reason that I transitioned into UX designing was because of the higher level of inquisitive engagement. There is nothing like knowing how the sausage gets made. When I am working with a client or on a team, I have an expectation that they will be open with communicating their thoughts, desires, and fears regarding the product, the process, and the problems. Collaboration is the synergy that allows magic to happen, and in tech, we are all magicians trying to deliver the best experience possible.
I believe in love
To do my best work, I must be in love with what I am doing. When I work with clients, I want to know the backstory so I can learn to love your website or application as much as you do. When I work in corporate spaces, I am looking for the passion — the big WHY. Why create this app? Who is it serving? Why now? How are we failing the people we are trying to reach? What is the vision?
Love is at the cornerstone of who I am as a person and therefore it must be in the work that I do.
What you don’t know you can learn
As an artist, I am committed to making my life one long learning environment. I am an actress and a writer at my core, and I am constantly learning new things in that arena. It is the same thing in tech as well. There is always a new coding language, design aesthetic, or accessibility rule. Instead of being frustrated at what I don’t know, I’ve learned to lean into my ignorance and take each moment as an opportunity to educate myself.
Work is not everything.
I love to work hard, particularly for something that I am passionate about, but work is not everything. 2020 beautifully illustrated to me that life is meant to be lived intentionally, joyfully, and indulgently, and a fully lived life informs better, higher quality, more empathetic work.
